Best field service software for 5–20 crews

The FSM tools that carry a real, community-scored verdict at this crew size — each one independently clears our evidence bar. Every recommendation below is the verbatim per-crew verdict from the tool's own spec file; we add no new claims here, only the layout.

Scored picks for 5–20 crews

Sorted by Coverage · all four axes shown

Ordered by Coverage — the axis that matters most at this crew size. We never average the four axes into one rank; all four scores are shown so you can weigh the trade-offs yourself. A tool appears here even when its verdict for this crew size is a caution — the honest “where it falls short” text is shown as written.

Recommended, but watch the reporting ceiling. $79 Growing or $149 Premium by job volume, with unlimited users remaining a real advantage over per-seat competitors. The caveat grows louder here: H-E-BSport50 (ex-Jobber) found the lack of profitability reporting and payment-status visibility "becoming problematic," and GeekCohenAU found the pre-field/CRM side clunky enough to build their own module. Recommended for 5-20 crews whose needs are operational (jobs/scheduling/invoicing); if you need deep financial/profitability reporting or a real sales-CRM pipeline, evaluate that gap before committing. Lower-confidence than the 2-5 verdict — large-crew operator data thins out at this size.

Workable at the low end, with a real ceiling. Multiple operators put ~5 techs as where GD "becomes not as helpful," and report gaps in reporting, API/integrations, and PO handling that compound at scale; the newer branch/Growth feature helps multi-branch but FieldRoutes is the cited step-up for heavier operations.

Strongest fit (everything in one app, sticky migrations, white-glove onboarding) BUT heed the ~10-person / $2M / multi-location coverage ceiling and the need for separate accounting. (PainOk9079; Superior_SoftWash ceiling + QBO defect; bkgeorge33.)

Strongest evidence sits here (7+ techs, $1M+, responsive support) but so does the heaviest nickel-and-dime friction — a fit for a shop willing to pay full freight for breadth. (lsd_runner; ncvetkovic; ImportantRaccoon6818.)

Best-fit crew size on price: flat-fee unlimited-user pricing saves $500–$1,000+/mo vs FieldEdge or ServiceTitan at 10–15 techs, and back-office scheduling/dispatch is solid — but budget for a rough migration in (operators report no clean customer import and QuickBooks sync that mangled their data), and accept the weakest field app in the segment (no offline, no push notifications, photo crash bugs) plus periodic outages.

The one segment where ST can pay off, but go in clear-eyed: established resi/HVAC shops confirm strong feature coverage and reporting, yet onboarding runs months, the tech-side app draws heavy complaints (disappearing forms, $0-offline prices, lag), and you'll need a dedicated person and a real budget to make it work.

DRAFT — Not enough community evidence to verdict. Directional: feasible (DiscussionUnlucky584 ran 10 accounts) but Ultimate-tier feature gating and billing-dispute reports ($800 overbill, ignored reductions) are a real risk at this size.

Score first · links second

Scores before links. Always.

Every tool here cleared the evidence bar on its own. A tool with no affiliate program that scores higher still ranks higher. The order is set by Coverage alone — never a payout, never a composite average. Each verdict above is the verbatim per-crew text from the tool's spec file.

A tool only appears once it has complete, non-placeholder scores on all four axes and a real verdict for this crew size. Tools still mid-research are held back — never padded in to fill the page. Read the full method.
