Scored picks for solo operators

Sorted by Pricing honesty · all four axes shown

Ordered by Pricing honesty — the axis that matters most at this crew size. We never average the four axes into one rank; all four scores are shown so you can weigh the trade-offs yourself. A tool appears here even when its verdict for this crew size is a caution — the honest “where it falls short” text is shown as written.

Strong fit. At $49/mo a solo pest/recurring-service operator gets scheduling, invoicing, routing, material tracking and a liked mobile app; switchers from QuickBooks, Jobber and paper report it simplifies the day. Tolerate occasional glitches and the weak integration story.

Recommended for iOS-equipped solo operators. The $29/mo Starter (unlimited users, job-volume tiers) is the de facto entry, and the Free tier genuinely suits very-low-volume early-stage solos (lost-student-help, eomeet). The iOS mobile app is the standout — invoice and capture photos from the job, no dispatcher overhead (TrailsideHandyman). One honest caveat: it can be more than a true one-man shop needs — Plenty-Bedroom6787 found SM8+Xero "overkill" and left for a single-app tool — and you must be on an iPhone/iPad to get the full field experience (the Android "Lite" app is feature-limited). Best for solos who want room to grow on Apple devices; a minimalist single-app tool may suit a pure one-man shop better.

Solo operators pay $245/mo for features they won't fully use — Jobber or Housecall Pro are cheaper and simpler until you need QB inventory sync and dispatch scheduling.

Approach cautiously. It works (donniedc's clean switch; 3-option quotes lift the ticket) but multiple solos call it overkill / over-priced and add-ons push cost up — value-focused solos may do better elsewhere unless quoting / Service-Plan features matter to them. (donniedc; treesnstuffbub; Loose_Ambassador2432 [discount].)

Most solo operators should skip it: the freshest consensus is "overkill / more than I need," with cost-driven switch-aways. The exception is a disciplined solo who'll actually use the full feature set and plans to scale — they can run the whole business on it. Skip it — ServiceTitan's own sales reps tell solo operators "it's designed for companies with crews," the floor is >$1,000/mo, and veterans uniformly point solos to Housecall Pro or Jobber instead.

DRAFT — Not enough community evidence to verdict (Coverage UNSCORED). Directional: workable but community flags it as expensive for a solo operator with paid-extra unbundling and annual lock-in.

Method, not marketing
Score first · links second

Scores before links. Always.

Every tool here cleared the evidence bar on its own. A tool with no affiliate program that scores higher still ranks higher. The order is set by Pricing honesty alone — never a payout, never a composite average. Each verdict above is the verbatim per-crew text from the tool's spec file.

A tool only appears once it has complete, non-placeholder scores on all four axes and a real verdict for this crew size. Tools still mid-research are held back — never padded in to fill the page. Read the full method.
